Take into account the space for the event

As well as we spend a lot of time looking for the best dress or suit for the celebration, we also have to do the same with the wine, since it must be in harmony with the whole banquet.

The wedding venue is an almost essential aspect, for example: for a beach wedding, there is nothing better than refreshing wines such as rosé or white wines, which accompany perfectly with the fish and seafood served at a beach banquet.

Meanwhile, if you dream of celebrating a wedding in a winery or vineyard, we recommend you opt for the winery’s own vintage wine.

Wine and space should always be in harmony!

Keep in mind the weather, season, and time of the wedding

Even if you don’t think that it is necessary, you should take into account the season when you will get married, as well as whether it is an open or closed space. These factors will have a great influence on the choice of wine.

If your wedding will be held at night in winter, the best option is red wine; if, on the contrary, your wedding takes place in summer, it will be better to think about whites, rosés, and sparkling wines as the main ones; as well as if the event is in the morning, these last ones together with the fruity ones will be a total success.

Offer different wines

Why? Because this way you will make all the guests feel satisfied, so different types of wine will flatter your loved ones and they wouldn’t get bored of the same wine during the banquet.

Remember that, even if you have sparkling or fruity wines, white and red are a must have! You can have several bottles on each table or ask the waiters to make sure that nobody’s glass is left empty.

First, work out the menu

It is better to know in advance the type of meal that is going to be served at the banquet, as well as the number of times the dishes are going to be served. It would help you a lot to choose the best wine.

Each wine has a different type of composition, aroma, and acidity, each of them goes better with some types of food or with others, and also it depends on the temperature of the meal.

Keep reading, here we will tell you which wines are best to accompany with meat, fish, and even desserts. Every taste makes a difference!

For the starters

We recommend serving a very cold and smooth wine for your guests and for you to taste the starters, as well as if you are looking for a more informal banquet instead of a classic banquet. Do you know all the types of banquets that exist?

Light dishes are usually served during the banquet, so white wines will be the best accompaniment for soups, salads, creams, seafood, or fresh cheeses.

White wine goes well with soft, low fat and light protein foods, for example, here are our Spanish favourites: Mascaró Suavignon Blanc, Pluma Blanca (Rueda), Arraez Verdil, Tempranillo Blanco, and Alter blanco (Ribeiro).

Wine for the first course

To enjoy the food in all its essence, it is best to opt for soft and aromatic wines, this way you can intensify the flavours of each dish.

First dishes are usually heavier than starters, so we recommend red wines, which are perfect to accompany red meat or more spicy or elaborate dishes, which also combine perfectly with sauces.

Among soft and subtle Spanish red wines, we would definitely choose Aldonia 100, Pricum La Milana, Vera de la Fuente Baboso Negro, Gaznata Gredos, and Valderroa Carballo.

Cortijo Los Agustinos

Wine for the second course

We recommend red wines for second courses, whether there is meat, fatty or smoked fish, such as salmon or grilled fish, they will combine perfectly with this type of wine.

The same applies to spicy dishes, as if there is some kind of more biting spice, it is advisable to serve red wines, although in this case, they should be a little fruitier. Quite a nice contrast!

At the time of serving these dishes, you can have in mind some of the best Spanish red wines, such as a De Muerte, Solar de Bécquer Reserva, Hemar 12 Crianza, and 200 Monges Reserva, all of them with the denomination of origin.

Sa Cala Rotja

Wine for desserts

Let’s move on to sparkling wines! There is nothing better for desserts, whether sweet or fruit, than to accompany them with another sweet sparkling wine, because they do not have an intense flavour and allow you to enjoy the dessert in all their splendour.

So, have cava or champagne close at hand for the moment of cutting the cake.

To fill your glasses on this special moment, the best Spanish sparkling wines we recommend are Codorniú Brut Nature Reserva Vintage, Freixenet Brut Rosé, ELYSSIA Grand Cuvée Brut, and Segura Viudas Lavit Brut Nature.

Choose a quality

By this we mean that you should not get carried away by the wines with the highest prices, as the most expensive is not always the best quality, nor the cheapest is the worst one.

Therefore, it is better to focus on the quality of the wine rather than the name. And how can we know? Using the following two things:

Palacio Miramar

Wine degustation

Just as you do a degustation of the food that will be served on the day of the event, you can do the same with wine.

We also advise that you taste the drinks with your chosen dishes beforehand, so that you can experience the harmony between the wine and the food for yourself. It will be an unforgettable experience!

Take some professional advice

If you don’t know much about the world of wine, the best thing to do is to contact the sommelier or the chef of the venue where you want to celebrate your wedding so that these professionals can advise you on the best wines to serve for each dish and each moment of the celebration.

Say goodbye to fear and clear all your wine doubts! To learn and try something new is always so exciting!

Now you are ready to set off to enjoy the best wines! But, above all, live it as an adventure and have a great time with your couple tasting whites, reds, smooth, fruity…

At Perfect Venue we are convinced that your banquet will be a great experience.
