Santa Florentina Castle
The building was originally a Roman villa (domus) and fortification. It was built in the 11th century and its first documented owners were the feudal lords Guadimir de Canet and later Gilbert de Canet. The splendour of the building began in the 14th century, when Ferrera de Canet fortified the house and added medieval towers. In the 16th century it passed into the hands of Dimas Muntaner, whose family ran it until the change of ownership to the Capmani family, the current owners of the castle. In 1908 it was the residence of Alfonso XIII, who granted Ramon de Montaner y Vila the title of Count of Canet. In 1910 it was enlarged and renovated by the modernist architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner.
Today the castle serves as a venue for events (photo shoots, weddings…), it also works as a museum and has been the venue of an annual classical music festival since 1999 in July and August.
