Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia by the Mediterranean Sea, is a rich city with plays and important role in Spain for its avant-guard and cosmopolitan style bringing together art, culture and tourism and making it one of the most visited cities in Europe. Its Ramblas, markets, various districts, parks and architectonic monuments will leave you with your mouth open. As you have probably already imagined your destination wedding in Barcelona, you should know that you want not be able to leave this city without spending a few days walking up and down its streets and soaking into its essence, enabling you to bring home a very rich experience.
And since we know you also want not be coming here just to get married, here are a few activities for you to get to know the city and to surprise you at every step you take:
- Take a walk on the most famous street. Walking along the Ramblas is a unique activity where you will be able to meet both tourists and Barcelonans. Located in the center of the city, this walk is full of people, press and flower kiosks, artists, shops and monuments.
- Visit Adora La Pedrera, an impressive building structure full of mythology and marine souvenirs that hosts exhibitions, concerts and early twentieth-century decoration. You will also fall in love with this work of art!
- Enjoy the breeze on the Barceloneta, the beach of this city, where you will also be able to discover the former marine district which still has its original houses. Furthermore, this area also features a great gastronomic offer typical of the city with sea fruit and paella.
- Climb to the higher parts of the city. Barcelona has many sightseeing points where you can enjoy the view on the whole city. One of the most important ones is the Parque Güell, surrounded of mosaics and full of statues and fountains. You can also enjoy a full panoramic view of the city from the Bunkers of Carmel, a perfect viewpoint to watch a sunset filled with history, or the Castillo de Montjuic, the highest mountain point, which is accessible by cable car.
- Let yourself be stunned by the Sagrada Familia, a must-see jewel which you must visit both from the inside and the outside. It is an unachieved masterpiece which makes the monument the most visited in Barcelona, an incomparable cathedral to any other one in the world.
- If you are a sports lover, you should not miss the Anilla Olímpica, where the Olympic Games were celebrated in 1992: more than 400 acres that host the Olympic Stadium, the Palau Sant Jordi, pools and the Olympic and Sports Museum. But if, in addition to this, you are also a music lover, do not hesitate to go to the Palau Sant Jordi, a space full of modernism and musical history to enjoy one of its operas or orchestra concerts.
- If you want to escape the agglomeration, get lost in the Laberinto de Horta, a park that has ponds and waterfalls creating a very romantic atmosphere. This is the largest labyrinth in Spain and the oldest garden in the city. Would you dare?
- Try its gastronomy, Barcelona undoubtedly has a great number of culinary experiences where you would also be able to mix and exchange with local and autochthones people to immerse yourself into their culture. A clear example is the Mercado de la Boquería, a municipal market with a huge alimentary choice which just makes one more touristic space to visit.
- Play with a child in the Parque de Atracciones del Tibidabo, the excellence amusement park in the city ideal for all ages and that contains classical attractions and original elements with a huge charm.
- Walk along its parks such as the Ciutadella, a rather uncommon park since it features a school, a church, a lake, a kiosk, a fair, concerts, parties and even the buildings of the Catalonian Parliament.
- Hang out among the streets of the Gothic and Jewish district and learn more about the history of the whole city, losing yourself among its medieval and roman streets and stopping to refuel in one of the many restaurants you will find along the way.
- Walk through the alternative neighborhood of the city, a district full of urban art and covered with wall paintings and quality graffiti, where many artists work on meters and meters of façade, and whose works are continuously replaced by others.
- But if you do not want to lose any detail and see the most important of the city in a very short lapse of time, we recommend you take the panoramic bus that enables you to see the city essentials, stopping at the best places to take pictures.
