Among the countless wedding venues, a former Carthusian monastery was at the top in the list for these bride and groom, who decided to marry in exclusive areas dating back to the 13th century. As you read it, their wedding took place in La Cartuja de Ara Christi!
In the territory of this venue, there are a garden, covered and uncovered cloister, hall of mirrors, orchard, dance area, stables, and reflectoriums, these are some of the spaces, which have a great variety of details. Here the bride and groom and their guests could move around freely, did you know that even the original wells are still preserved?
This Carthusian monastery, dating from 1585, was built by Fray Antonio Ortiz and commissioned by the Roig family of Valencia. It is located just 20 km from Valencia and allows the couple to host up to 3,000 guests outside and 500 inside.
La Cartuja is decorated down to the smallest detail
For the big day, Ara Christi was filled with blue, pink, maroon, and mustard flowers along with large green leaves, thanks to Laura Ris, who arranged an altar in the inner courtyard of the Charterhouse with flowers entangled in large circles of hanging flowers. They were also seen in the bouquet and on the tables as a centerpiece.
The wooden tables, with their table linen, and the wooden chairs, which were also in different styles and with white cushions, were placed in one of the halls of the old monastery. Ceibo was in charge of setting up the furniture throughout the charterhouse.
“Natural” gastronomy
If there is something that makes the Charterhouse unique, it is its gastronomy, which Gourmet Catering & Espacios took care of, allowing the bride and groom to enjoy seasonal food in the spacious halls, natural, without artifice, and adapted to each guest and possible intolerance.
The tables were set with gold-colored crockery, glassware and porcelain. As well as candle-holders and decorative lanterns.
How to get to Ara Christi…
It was necessary to have handmade invitations, which were designed by María Elena, from Tuinvi. She created the invitations in red envelopes with white calligraphy and a botanical-inspired design.
The invitations were adorned with white ribbons, floral stamps and tassels on the envelopes, which were sealed as in the olden days, with white sealing wax.

The firm Valerio Luna was in charge to dressed the bride, she wore the CALIFA model, a dress with a deep-plunge neckline in crepe, fitted to the silhouette and sleeves finished with ruffles and feathers. The touch was added by a flower with petals and crystal embellishments on one shoulder.
Chicherka did the bride’s make-up and hairstyle: a half up-do with waves and a look of grey and silver shadows with glitter and black smoke.
The groom wore a suit by Garrido Ceremonia design, it was a navy-blue suit with paisley print.
Sleeping in the monastery, it’s possible
And to make your stay even more complete and give you the full experience, the Charterhouse also has the old Prior’s House, where the bride, groom and guests can stay on the wedding night in its bedrooms.
