1. Modern infrastructure and even better connectivity
Fuerteventura has connections every half hour with Puerto del Rosario and Caleta de Fuste and with the southern area approximately 6 times a day on the Tiadhe buses (intercity passenger transport). There’s also a taxi service from the municipalities of Puerto del Rosario, Antigua and La Oliva.
Up to 4,000 passengers arrive per hour, thanks to the new airport facilities, which has improved the travel experience for tourists arriving on the island as well as for the people who live there and use the facilities on a daily basis.
Maritime communications are carried out from three ports, Puerto del Rosario, Corralejo and Morro Jable. The main activity of Puerto del Rosario is goods traffic, although its facilities also allow the docking of tourist cruise ships and a ferry from Gran Canaria. It is currently being extended and a marina is being built.
Passenger traffic is mainly channelled through Corralejo, Gran Tarajal and Morro Jable. The port of Corralejo links the island with Lanzarote, Gran Tarajal with Gran Canaria and Morro Jable with Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
2. Its bustling lifestyle makes it a hotspot for events
Cultural, sporting, scientific or academic, business, gastronomic and tourist events, all aim to improve the competitiveness of tourism in the Canary Islands and the strategic recovery of the sector.
1.7 million euros will be earmarked for sponsorship of on-site events, of which 1.2 million euros will be for events promoted by private entities and 500,000 euros for those organised by public administrations and companies.
The 127 projects in the first call are divided into cultural events (61), sporting events (32), tourism (19), gastronomy (11) and business, scientific or academic events (4). Tenerife was the island with the most projects (55), followed by Gran Canaria (41), Lanzarote (13), Fuerteventura (8), La Gomera (5), La Palma (3), El Hierro (1) and La Graciosa (1).
3. Cultural richness and green spaces, synonymous with nature and heritage
Starting with its beautiful beaches with coastlines that span for kilometres which you’ll love to stroll by, such as the Costas de Barlovento and Sotavento in the south and Corralejo in the north – an incomparable paradise.
Fuerteventura has extensive plains, the result of an intense erosive process over history. It is the oldest island in the archipelago, having experienced numerous volcanic eruptions.
It is characterised by the scarce vegetation. The flora on the island is not abundant.
The island has 13 natural spaces with different categories of protection: Natural Parks, Rural Parks, Natural Monuments, Protected Landscapes.
Las Playitas: In the southeast, in Tuineje, you’ll find Las Playitas, an extremely elegant village of seafaring origins.
Esquinzo – Morro Jable: These places are located in the extreme south of the island, forming an important tourist and social hub where you can find numerous restaurants, accommodation, shops, services…
Puerto del Rosario: Famous for being the capital of this beautiful island, it’s an important administrative, commercial, cultural and leisure centre where you can find the large buildings of the island.
Betancuria: Located in the centre of Fuerteventura, it stands out for its traditional market, narrow streets full of flowers and its special charm.
Caleta de Fuste: Located in an enclave in the centre, it stands out for its fantastic hotels, a sports pier where you can practice water sports, two golf courses, a convention centre, many shopping centres and leisure and sports areas.
4. Its avant garde facilities, worthy of leisure and culture
The Canary Islands is the seventh Autonomous Community with the most companies, a total of 151,661, but it falls to thirteenth place in the ranking of large firms. Only 25 of these almost 152,000 entities have a turnover of more than 100 million euros per year.
The number of hotel and extra-hotel beds registered by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura has doubled since 1999, from 55,571 to 109,442 at the end of last year.
