We have already talked about an exclusive dressmaker’s studio that specialises in wedding dresses, bridesmaids’ dresses, party dresses and dresses for communion in the centre of Alicante that we had to visit and share with you. We are talking about Atelier Yolanda Novias, an elegant shop in the very centre of the city that offers a grand collection of designs, both for dresses and accessories, that ensure that on the day of your wedding or event, your figure and beauty will shine more than ever.
We are going, of course, to this fantastic city to find Atelier Yolanda Novias. We arrive at the shop to a wonderful window display which already gives us an idea of the quality of the designs, materials, colours and styles that we are going to find inside. We are excited to learn about the collections that Yolanda can offer us, and of course, the great professions that we will meet behind each one of these splendid pieces.
Through the door, we are received by the caring and welcoming Yolanda Serrano, owner of Atelier Yolanda Novias and creator of many of these beautiful designs.
– Good Morning, How are you all? Welcome.
– Good morning, thank you for having us, we are excited to find out about all of the collections and options that Atelier Yolanda Novias can offer for a day as special as a wedding.
– We see that you not only work with wedding dresses but also with other types of designs. What kind of client is your work aimed at? What kind of dresses and combinations do you offer? For what kind of special event?
– Our clients come looking for dresses that are different, elegant, with a personal history or even custom made. We make all types of dresses and combinations, each one totally unique. Furthermore we work with a wide range of fabrics and designs. Wedding, party, communion, bridesmaids’ or traditional regional dresses, we adapt, looking to find a perfect match with the tastes and figure of each client.
– In the case of the bride, do you have a catalogue of designs that are ready-made or do you have the option to create personalised designs?
– In the case of the bride as well as in other types of special events, if you aren’t sure what you are looking for, we do have a catalogue; fabrics, lace, embroidery, jewels, and a selection of dresses to help us connect with your wishes. Then, we can greatly adapt these designs to your own tastes or preference. We also always work with advice related to the personality, wedding style and characteristics of each bride.
– If a client would like an exclusive outfit or a dress made to measure, do you have staff dedicated to giving advice to help them find the piece that suits their personality or figure perfectly?
-We advise our clients according to their tastes, personality, wedding style and figure. Our staff specialise in the design field, the fashion industry, in haute couture and patterns.
– Can you tell us a little bit about the process from when a bride contacts you up to when the final creation is finished?
This is a great question. Our process is completely different to other ‘pret à porter’ shops. You can only visit us once you have made a reservation, in order to ensure that we can give our best performance, time and advice. We split into two methods: If the client is lost and still does not know what kind of dress they would like, as we have already said, we have a catalogue as well as a wide range of fabrics and accessories to make the dress of your dreams. If the client knows what they would like their dress to be like, we try on some of the dresses, skirts or bodices that we have in the shop that best match what they are looking for. In our own dresses we look at readjusting the fabrics, neckline and everything so that the client can visualise perfectly their dream dress.
In both cases, once they have chosen their dress, we make an exclusive design in order to confirm what they want, taking samples of the fabrics or details that they have chosen. We take their measurements and make a file for them so that everything that we have discussed stays together.
– How far in advance should the brides come in for a consultation? Whether it’s taking a design from the catalogue or designing a unique and personalised dress?
-We usually expect a visit about 3 or 4 months before if you are choosing a dress designed in the way you have just mentioned. From there, it depends on the wedding date. We usually work with a minimum of 45 days before.
– And, talking of unique designs, are there any in your career that you would consider your best design, one that you feel especially proud of or one that you particularly love?
-Of course, there have been several. Among them, a design for a wedding dress ‘Diliana’. It was a dress with a bodice with a bardot neckline, very stiff, with details all the way across the neckline. A voluminous skirt, with a splendid train covered in layered frills. I fell in love with this dress at first sight. I designed it with lots of excitement, as this design at the time was completely different to what was already on the market. It was different in terms of design and in terms of fabric. Without a doubt it was an innovative dress and very sought after by many of my brides. They assured me that it was their favourite. It was such a popular dress that it was very strange when a bride didn’t look incredible wearing it. This for me was a reason to be proud of a job well done. The obsession and demand for this dress was so large that for many years it was the trademark piece for the atelier.
– Apart from dresses, what other accessories do you offer for the wedding day or special event?
-In our Atelier we have every type of accessory. Fascinators, veils, belts or jewelled detailing. Furthermore, we personalise every type of accessory such as: bags, shoes, pashminas etc. so that they all match the dress perfectly.
– Your designs stand out for their quality, design and elegance, but also we mustn’t forget the importance of the special personalised attention and help that the bride receives throughout the process. In this case, what is the process from when the bride gets in contact with you up until the exact day of the event?
-The client comes to us, we pinpoint exactly what kind of thing she is looking for, choosing the dress and the fabrics that best suit what she wants. At certain points the client visits us in order to fit the dress perfectly to her size and vision for the dress.
– An essential question… Tell us… What makes Atelier Yolanda Novias different from the rest of the wedding and party businesses in the area and why should our clients choose you?
-We have over 28 years of experience working in the haute couture industry and this is something that is evident in the quality of our designs. What makes us different in this sector is quite clear; we are able to make the dress of your dreams using our experience in designing haute couture pieces to an exceptionally high quality, we give completely free advice, as well as make unique dresses made to measure from scratch. Additionally, we provide a wide range of prices that work for any budget. I don’t know what more I can say.
