Today we have the pleasure of sharing the interview we did with these wedding photographers in Cáceres, in which we delve into their career, their vision and their way of working. Furthermore, we spoke about the newest trends in wedding photography, and now we get to share some of their most special work with you.

Who is behind Bokeh?

Monica: Bokeh is a team, we’re Monica and Raul, and we’re trained in the field of fine arts and the audiovisual world.

Tell us what led you to become wedding photographers. Did you always know this is what you wanted to do?

Monica: We were passionate about painting, cinema and photography since we were young. This feeling of creativity that we’ve always had is what brought is to create Bokeh Estudio and put all of our wisdom into the world of weddings.

Raul: A marvelous event where you can mix reality with art and capture one moment forever.

You do photography and videography, how do you organise yourselves when working in a team? Do you both go to every event and wedding?

Raul: Together we are videographers and photographers, so we are trained to work together in these fields. We work together, in the sense that when our clients want a complete coverage of their wedding, I do the video and Monica does the photos. We know how to capture a complete wedding individually, through working together with each others skills.

How do you prepare for every wedding? Do you visit the venue, meet with the couples…?

Monica: We prepare thoroughly; we call the couples by phone, and speak with them via Skype, we email them, etc. If the venue is relatively nearby, we go to visit and introduce ourselves to the owners, the same goes with churches. The truth is that most of the time we work from home, so we search for the couples suppliers online, and then we contact them by phone, and go and visit the facilities where the couple are getting married.

You’re based in Cáceres, but do you do weddings all over Spain?

Raul: Yes we’re based in Cáceres but we don’t have any problem travelling with couples who live elsewhere or want to get married in cities such as Plasencia, Cáceres, Madrid, Barcelona etc. We live in a globalised world and thanks to the internet and different professional programmes, it’s possible for couples to see our photos and our albums.

Monica: Communication is never a problem because we speak English fluently and the treatment and services are the same. In fact, last weekend, we photographed Fernando and Bianca’s wedding, a couple who live in Germany and got married in a farm in Cáceres. We’ve also worked with people who live in London.

Do you usually have to give the couples many instructions? How do you get them to relax?

Monica: Before covering a wedding, we speak to the couple quite a lot. One of the most important things for us is that everything goes well and the couple have to be relaxed and enjoy every minute, because it’ll be incredible and it can’t be done again! There is one point of the day in which we guide the couples photoshoot, because above all, we’re camera experts, and we’re here to offer guidance on how a couple can look like they’re having the most natural interaction. Naturally, we also tell them some nice things whilst we place them where we think they’ll look best.

Is there any specific moment that you love to photograph?

Monica: The bridal preparations are very special, followed by the ceremony, where the speeches usually produce incredibly sincere emotions. In pre and post weddings, there is also usually a pleasant atmosphere that allows us to capture funny, light-hearted moments.

What’s the biggest challenge that you’ve had to face at a wedding?

Raul: There was one where the restaurant was too small for the amount of diners.

Are there any new trends in wedding photography that you’ve noticed recently?

Monica: With regard to photography, i’ve seen a shift back to Costumbrismo, documentaries and street photography in black and white.

Raul: With regard to videos, there’s a tendency to take out and move the objective, as a creative part of the shot.

Monica: We love the documentary and cinematographic aesthetics, maintaining a natural and elegant line.

And to finish, how many weddings do you do per year, and how far in advance should couples contact you?

Raul: We do at least 20. We only do one wedding per weekend. The sooner you get in contact, the better it is for everyone.
