Flowers, Flowers and even more flowers
Flowers have taken over the runways of Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week. And if anything is clear is that in 2023 we will see a lot of wedding dresses with flowers, full of romanticism and delicacy. These flowers are not only found in precious and delicate embroideries or in flat openwork but also in reliefs and 3D designs. Without a doubt a trend for those brides looking for femininity and sophistication. Strategically placed, they will make your dress exude sensuality and a fragility never seen before.
We expect to see flowers on bodices, skirts, necklines and shoulders such as in the designs of Jesus Peiro, Marchesa for Pronovias, Yolancris and Cymbeline. But flowers will also be seen on adorning trendy accessories such as translucent capes, oversized earrings, semi-transparent sleeves and fancy coat cuffs. A multitude of floral appliques fit for romantic, fairytale and bohemian weddings. You decided!
Two-piece sets
Bridal Fashion Week has evolved in the last few years by incorporating new and groundbreaking designs as a way to adapt to the avant-garde style of today’s brides. The two-piece sets are one of these aid adaptions, making multiple appearances in this year’s new edition of the BBFW. Wedding dresses combine beautiful long skirts, that are voluminous, flowy or straight sillohuets that are perfectly paired with an elaborate top, leaving the waist exposed. Truly beautiful designs for those modern brides looking to make a difference when walking down the aisle without sacrificing comfort and personality.
The two-piece is not limited to a top and skirt combo, other possibilities are on the horizon, just as Jesus Peiro and Isabel Sanchis have presented, elegant tops paired with ultra-chic shorts or palazzo pants that will shape the latest fashion. And let us not forget the modern pansuit with pants – a real hit!
But wait there is more to this year’s designs. Who says the two-piece set needs to necessarily be two pieces? We expect to see one-piece designs creating the illusion of two pieces but using cut-outs to ‘separate’ the top from the bottom.
Chic Minimalism
Cymbeline
They often say “less is more”, and this year’s BBFW has claimed more than ever the power of minimalism. Many of the dresses were presented with clean and simple lines, some completely plain and unadorned and others with delicate embroidery placed strategically for a modern touch.
But one thing is for sure not lacking, femininity and romanticism. Details such as colorful 3D elements, semi-transparent waists, original sleeves or double layers, have all been showcased. All sorts of silhouettes are to be expected: soft falls, fitted form hugging or more pompous and flowy or bohemian drapes. The minimalist dresses with harmonious silhouettes are to be found in the 2023 collections of Cymbeline, Sophie et Voila and Nicole Milano. But dont think that simplicity excludes elegance, on the contrary, it provides the wow factor that every bride hopes to achieve.
Say yes to the Cape
Jesus Peiro
For some time now, the wedding cape has been a constant in the bridal business, and it will continue to command attention. These pieces of coat are made to spruce up a look by adding sophistication and that extra oomph to any design you decide to wear. Transparent, in crepe with shiny details, 3D flowers, tulle with rhinestones…the options are endless, the sky is the limit.
Capes are going to take my forms; layers that double as long tails, sprouting from the shoulders, neck and back or the dress itself or capes emerging from sleeves. All options imaginable have been designed by Jesus Peiro, Isabel Sanchis, Nicole Milano and Agnieszka Swiatly. A cape is certainly a staple for a colder wedding setting or to simply add a unique touch to your look.
Still not persuaded? Not to worry, capes offer something for everyone. It can take forms such as veils, although some may think it’s too traditional, it is a very fashionable piece. Brands such as Marchesa for Pronovias, have continued to bet on these traditional pieces loaded with symbolism. Or you can choose coats, allowing for the transformation of a sober look into a memorable one. Are you willing to give it a try? Here is our recommendation: from designer Sophie et Voila, presenting a stunning piece with a long tail adding volume with their XL sleeves.
Glitter upon Glitter.
Nicole Milano
If you want to outshine and turn heads at your wedding, the glittery wedding gown is for you. A style that has been ever so present in the bridal world, has yet again made a comeback. Designers have been inspired by using glitter to reflect, shine and sparkle. By using reflective fabrics, rhinestone appliques, jewelled details and glittering belts. These glittery elements have all been used to highlight the waist, back, bodices and skirts for a full-fledged glam look.
Nicole Milano’s 2023 collection takes centre stage on this trend, by captivating fashion enthusiasts with sparkling prints incorporated into the neckline, skirts and straps where rhinestones cascade from the pieces. Jesus Peiro, Olga Macia and Victor & Rolf also caught on to this trend.
Sheer Sensuality: Unveiling Transparencies
Yolancris
In illusion necklines, in sleeves, shorts, puffed or tattoo lace, skirts, backs, capes and veils, Tranparanceies will make an appearance for another season. A very feminine detail that can be made more or less translucent depending on the style you want to convey, whether more sensual and romantic or more daring and bold.
Renowned bridal designers like Jesus Peiro, Marchesa for Pronovias, Isabel Sanchis and Marco & Maria have all brought a sheer sensuality to the runway this season. The designs ranged from semi-transpatent bodices and shiny details; to long flowing silhouettes that end in translucent open skirts; or looks that incorporated layers and translucent flowers…The possibilities are endless, all full of movement and fluidity. All these transparencies are achieved thanks to the use of fabrics such as chiffon, tulle or silk.
Detachable Elements
Viktor & Rolf
Another hallmark of the 2023 BBFW is the detachable elements, allowing for adaptability and transformation as your wedding day magically progresses. These detachable elements take their form as tails that are often large bows at the waist, delicate removal skirts- some even over trousers- and capes, overdresses and bodices with cape effects.
But there were also voluminous detachable sleeves, which are often paired with minimalist styles. Such innovative elements have the power to transform the overall look of the dress or in some cases the style itself. It is truly made for a fantastic and showstopper result.
Sleeves Galore
Viktor & Rolf
As previously seen in the wedding collection of 2022, unique sleeves will continue to make an appearance in this upcoming season. Sleeves of all shapes and sizes are to be expected; puffed, poet, detachable, tight-fitting, short, long or a French drop shoulder. Sleeves will take centre stage adding a hint of originality to the look.
On the runway, we were able to see plain sleeves with tattoo effects, embellished with flowers, plumeti tulle, transparent fabrics, bedazzled with rhinestone details, adorned with ruffles and some had cuffs with accents of craftsmanship. A real delight! If you are looking for volume and layers of tule do not fret, Viktor & Rolf, Marylise and Rembo Styling, offer several styles with voluminous and layers sleeves. If you are a Bridgerton-style fan, here is where you will find your sleeve choice.
Who says brides should only wear white
Marchesa For Pronovias
It is without a doubt that white wedding gowns continue to be a staple on the runway of BBFW. However this year a number of colored gowns have also made an appearance. The colours range from beautiful pinks by Merchesa for Pronovias or daring blacks by Isabel Sanchis. Gold and silver hues have also been designed to bring focus to the bride during the big day.
Seeing shapes and volumes
Isabel Sanchis
Undoubtedly, another popular trend for the new bridal collections. A multitude of silhouettes playing with forms that will provide you with the most flattering shape for your body, but also add a little bit of oomph to any ‘plain’ dress. Be expected to take any simple dress to the next level by adding elements to spruce up your look. You will have a choice of 3D flowers, feathers and fringes. As well as XXL bows, like those of Nicole Milano, maybe some colour accents strategically placed at the back add dimension to the gown.
What style has caught your attention? Possibility Isabel Sanchi’s black and white design is carefully designed with delicate branches embellished at the sleeves sprouting from the gown itself, moving in time with the bride’s step. Or maybe the A-line princess gowns that often take centre stage on the runway.
Corseted bodices
Yolancris
If you are looking to wear a more traditional wedding dress but also want to give it that modern touch, then be ready to say ‘yes’ to the corseted bodice. A trend that has paraded again and again on the runway, by designers like Yolancris, Mireia Balaguer, Andrea Lalanza and Marco & Maria. This timeless piece is the perfect element to stylize the figure; by enhancing the bust, and giving a playful visual to the silhouette. Therefore when choosing the corset, be ready for the perfect intertwin between modern and classic.
This year’s corseted designs ranged from lace; paired with midi princess skirls or long flowing skirts- to straight corsets with fringe, to mermaid dropped waist filled with handmade touches. How about just showcasing the corset from behind? A look suggested by the adored Marchesa for Pronovias. Without a doubt…a trend full of charm and sensuality!
Short wedding dress
Viktor & Rolf
The beauty and freshness of these designs are undeniable, and the perfect surprise for a unique wedding day! If looking for a tropical wedding in 2023 here is the best of the best.
