What is the best way to serve it?
Serve it in a special corner, like a sushi bar. Yes, this is the best and most attractive way to arrange it at your wedding reception.
Due to the variety of shapes and colours, your presentation will look very eye-catching. Whether on a long table or in a pyramid (or even on a cake), your sushi corner will be a stunning highlight of your wedding cocktail party.
There are many ways to present the sushi, but don’t forget to include a small information about each of the types of sushi you are serving, as it is important that your guests know what each one contains.
Complete the presentation with chopsticks, napkins, plates and sauces to accompany the sushi, such as wasabi, ginger and, of course, soy sauce.
What kind of sushi should be served?
Sushi has a number of varieties and options to be served at your wedding reception. To create a unique combination of flavours use: salmon, tuna, prawns, avocado, butterfish… Mmm… Delicious!
The most popular types are:
- Maki: They have the classic cylindrical shape and normally are served in round portions. Usually, the rice is on the outside and it is better to eat with wasabi, a very spicy paste.
- Nigiris: They have the same shape as makis, but the fish is cut into thick fillets and is placed on the outside.
- Inari: A kind of fried tofu bag filled with rice and all kinds of ingredients: fish, vegetables…
- Chirashi: Rice, fish or seafood, roe and the desired vegetables are placed together on a small plate.
- Gunkan: Again, the rice is wrapped in seaweed to leave a hollow on top, which is usually filled with fish roe.
- Uramaki: This is very similar to maki, although on this occasion, the chosen ingredients are wrapped in seaweed, which is in turn covered with a thin layer of rice.
- Temaki: They have a very original conical shape, being much larger than the more traditional ones. The cone is made of nori seaweed, and the fish and vegetables are placed inside.
- Hosomaki: It is like maki but narrower, so only one ingredient fits inside, in addition to the rice.
- Futomaki: These are characterised by their greater thickness -futoi means fat or thick in Japanese-, while hosomaki is the opposite. In other words, sushi rolls cut into narrower pieces.
- Onigiri: This is a triangle of rice covered with the characteristic nori seaweed of sushi. A creative and eye-catching snack that should serve your sushi-bar.
- Oshi sushi: This is a type of square sushi and is one of the most filling sushi, as it has a large amount of ingredients inside.
The best thing to do at your wedding reception is to combine many of them, and even serve sweet sushi with chocolate, mango or strawberries.
Say “yes” to the famous Japanese liquor!
Do you dare to serve sake at your wedding reception? Of course, you do! A few shots of the most famous Japanese liquor will perfectly complete a most amazing cocktail.
Hire an expert every time
While your open sushi bar can be a huge success, it can also be a complete failure if you don’t hire the right sushi master. Make sure that the product used are always of the highest quality and that the flavours and presentation will be perfect.
Look for a cool place
Because sushi is made with fresh ingredients, especially fish, it needs a cool place. If the location allows it, you can keep the sushi in buffet-style containers, which have refrigeration. If it is not possible, the sushi should be kept in cold place until the time to serve it at your wedding reception.
