Two Soldiers Propose to Their Partners During Madrid’s October 12 Military Parade—and Both Get a “Yes”

Two soldiers surprised their partners with marriage proposals during Madrid’s October 12 parade. Discover the stories behind these two emotional yeses.

While thousands of people watched Madrid’s October 12 military parade, two members of the armed forces decided to make Spain’s National Day even more special. And not because of the parade itself, but because they seized the opportunity to a marriages proposals during the October 12 parade to their partners in front of their fellow service members.

One belonged to the Military Emergency Unit (UME), while the other served in the Spanish Air and Space Force. Both staged marriage proposals that quickly went viral after Spain’s Ministry of Defence shared the videos on its social media accounts.

There were rings, knees on the ground, nerves, tears, hugs and, of course, two enthusiastic yeses. These completely unexpected proposals showed that you don’t always need rose petals, elaborate decorations or a carefully prepared setting to create an unforgettable moment.

But they also raise an interesting question: is proposing in front of a crowd romantic, or can it put too much pressure on the person being asked?

At Perfect Venue, we love discovering original marriage proposals, so we couldn’t help but take notice of these two stories. They turned one of the most solemn days on the Spanish calendar into the beginning of two future marriages.

The First Proposal: A UME Soldier Gets Down on One Knee in Front of His Colleagues

The first surprise took place at around 10 a.m., during preparations for the National Day parade.

A member of the Military Emergency Unit, dressed in his uniform and wearing the unit’s distinctive beret, gathered his colleagues to share a moment that had little to do with military protocol.

In front of them all, he got down on one knee and proposed to his partner.

Visibly surprised, the young woman covered her face with her hands as he slipped the engagement ring onto her finger. She said yes, and his colleagues celebrated the moment with applause and joyful reactions.

The Ministry of Defence shared the footage on social media, congratulating the couple on their engagement and highlighting how special the date would be for them.

It was a scene with all the ingredients of a spontaneous proposal: emotion, surprise and important people standing alongside the couple.

A Second Proposal in the Spanish Air and Space Force

But the morning had another surprise in store.

Around half an hour later, at approximately 10:28 a.m., a member of the Spanish Air and Space Force decided to follow his colleague’s lead and propose to his girlfriend.

She approached him to say hello, unaware that she was about to experience one of the most important moments of their relationship.

He seized the opportunity to get down on one knee and ask the big question.

Interestingly, she was wearing a white dress. Overcome with emotion, she nodded through her tears before embracing and kissing her future husband.

His fellow service members were equally delighted and celebrated the scene with applause.

The Ministry of Defence shared the video once again, celebrating the fact that two couples had chosen to get engaged on the same day.

Two Marriages Proposals During The October 12 Parade That Made It Even More Special

Madrid’s National Day parade brings together thousands of spectators, military personnel and institutional representatives every year.

On this occasion, the parade route ran between the Glorieta del Emperador Carlos V and Plaza de Colón, with thousands of members of the armed forces taking part.

Yet amid the preparations, uniforms and solemn atmosphere, these two proposals stood out and became some of the most moving moments of the day.

Interestingly, both proposals shared several details: they happened on the same morning, took place in front of fellow service members and ended with a yes.

Although we don’t know the personal stories behind either couple, one thing is certain: from now on, October 12, 2026, will have a very different meaning for them.

Is Proposing in Public Romantic, or Can It Feel Uncomfortable?

Public marriage proposals always spark different opinions.

Some people dream of a spectacular proposal surrounded by family, friends or even strangers celebrating the moment. For others, being asked such an important question in front of a crowd can feel uncomfortable.

And that is the key: there is no single perfect proposal for everyone.

When a Public Proposal Can Become an Unforgettable Surprise

If your partner loves being the center of attention, enjoys big surprises and is excited about sharing important moments with other people, a public proposal can be a beautiful experience.

It could happen at a concert, a sporting event, a family celebration or, as we have seen, even during a military parade.

What matters most is that the setting means something to both of you.

In our article on original marriage proposal ideas, you’ll find a range of suggestions, from romantic settings in Madrid to personalized experiences for couples looking for something out of the ordinary.

Why It’s Important to Know Your Partner Before Planning the Surprise

Although public proposals can be incredibly moving, it’s worth remembering that being surrounded by spectators can add pressure to a very personal moment.

That’s why, before organizing this kind of surprise, it’s important to know whether your partner would feel comfortable being the center of attention in front of other people.

The decision to get married should ideally be something you have already discussed together, even if the date, location and way the ring is presented remain a surprise.

An intimate proposal can be just as emotional and often allows you to enjoy the moment with greater peace of mind.
