Tell us a little bit about your work, how did it all begin?

Julia Jambrina: Since my younger age, I have done some formations for weddings : with string instruments, piano, organ and with singer. Over the years the trends have been changing and I have been specializing in other styles such as jazz, swing, blues, soul and in general all the “vintage” music that are very original and elegant for the married. A short time ago I founded a music agency and from it I offer fast and professional music solutions.

Víctor Alcaide: We are a band made up of 3 musicians, we are dedicated to holding events, entertainment, parties and weddings. We also have our own compositions and several albums. The reason why we decided to form a band is our passion for music, which generated a need to study our instrument and carry out a project of our own. As for everyone, the beginnings were hard, dedicating many hours to rehearsals, recording studios and direct, to which we continue to contribute part of our daily hours.

Adrian Alcaide Quesada: We work in two dance schools based in the province of Tarragona, Dance Global Gim, which is in Tarragona, and New York Hall in Reus, the work we do in both is to train students in both Latin rhythms as in many other modalities, doing it for more than 28 years. Well, these schools were opened by family members and now it’s me, Adrián Alcaide, along with many other people who carry them out. Our beginnings in the world of dance were like students and by training with many teachers, already with the intention of getting to acquire the necessary knowledge to be able to teach and train students in the most professional way possible.

Radamaria Nazarenco Duminica: I am Radamaria Nazarenco Duminica and my husband Arcadie Nazarenco and I have a ballet school in Madrid called “Nazarenco Russian ballet school”. We started working in Madrid in 2013, with the impulse of some friends whose daughter is a dancer as well.

Rafael Suarez: All the members of the group are professional musicians, some are specialists in classical music, jazz, blues and other styles but despite the fact that we have different specialties within the music even from being from different countries, we are united by the passion for mariachi, for that Mexican music with which so many thousands of people have grown. Therefore, as the years went by, we joined together and today we are a total of 10 members in the group.

How came the idea to specialize in weddings too?

Julia Jambrina: When a wedding is celebrated, only wonderful things can happen and who does not want to be part of such an important and happy day? I am a violinist, I studied classical music at a conservatory and that seems to have always been linked to nuptial ceremonies.

Víctor Alcaide: Weddings are a unique event and a very special day. Our experience tells us that the bride and groom who are married want to have a perfect day, and adding music from our point of view is a great success. Without looking too much, we realized that many people want to have us playing in their cocktails or ceremonies. This process led us to prepare a specific repertoire and adapt for this type of actions and generating a certain reputation as a wedding group.

Adrian Alcaide Quesada: We participate in all types of weddings, both national and international. Whenever we attend weddings, we usually like it a lot, since the package of shows we offer is adapted to every occasion.

Radamaria Nazarenco Duminica: Because the bride and groom love ballerinas and this type of performances.

Rafael Suarez: Some of us came to this country before and others later, and we have been genuinely surprised by the great connection that exists between Spanish and Mexican culture. Especially during the summer about 80% of our presentations are at weddings. We go with our white suit with gold buttons and play romantic songs for the couple, then we increase the volume to encourage the guests and then to the party.

What can you offer to the married regarding the entertainment for their wedding?

Julia Jambrina: Right now people are not only looking for background music, but more and more are the couple requesting a show or a concert in which they can be participants and also the guests. The versions where the music is already known is the most requested because the experience of this music is closer than when alternative groups are hired, where the guests can not hum the songs. Mi La Do Swing offers six musicians: violin, piano, double bass player that sings, sax, drums, female singer and choirs, but you can also incorporate pairs of Lindy Hop dancers, Rock & Roll or a Burlesque dancer in Pin Up style. La Do Blues offers quieter music, from the 60s and 70s, with another aesthetic, but the same six musicians who plays. Mi La Do Music, on the other hand, can offer you practically à la carte musicians and with wider repertoires (including pop, rock, classical, flamenco, funk, Djs).

Víctor Alcaide: Introducing live music implies personalizing and creating a festive and pleasant atmosphere. It is usually positive to have a group playing songs, talking to the guests and entertaining. We are convinced that in the small details are the differences, it is for this reason that we generate details such as surprising the bride and groom with a song that identifies them can be very emotional.

Adrian Alcaide Quesada: Our wedding package is usually a romantic dance, another more moves and something in which the guests also participate, ending if the bride and groom want with a dance starting with the ballerinas and finishing them together.

Radamaria Nazarenco Duminica: To the couple we can offer beautiful dances: when they usually dance the two of them we can add some dancers around in long white tutus, and when they enter the restaurant we can make a line of dancers with flowers and the bride and groom go through there. Then, when the guests are in a party also we prepare some dances (romantic and more fun ones).

Rafael Suarez: The mariachi repertoire that can be cheerful, romantic or nostalgic, offers so much versatility that we can adapt to any type of audience. Usually if we show up during the cocktail we try to play boleros, rancheras and ballads so that people enjoy a pleasant time while having a drink. Quite the opposite if our presentation is after the meal, since then the dance comes and in that case we enter with the mañanitas, we play a couple of romantic songs for the couple and then we let ourselves play music as lively as possible to encourage everyone. When they arrive at the dance they are already euphoric.

Who most often ask for your services?

Julia Jambrina: To the email of Mi La Do, requests of all kinds arrive. Not only of weddings, but also of corporate events and many requests for commercial brands of drinks that want to sponsor concerts and culture. But weddings are always special, they come loaded with excitement from the Millennial generation, which looks for something more than the typical wedding music that generations ago had.

Víctor Alcaide: Brides and grooms who like flamenco, perfectionists who first of all try to prepare their wedding as a very special day.

Adrian Alcaide Quesada: The services can be requested from family members to the actual couple and promoters of events.

Radamaria Nazarenco Duminica: We usually travel around the world with our functions and galas. As for couples, we are engaged by fiancees from all countries.

Rafael Suarez: One of the greatest charms in Spain is that you can literally get people from all over the world, so we’ve been hired by people from absolutely all the countries in Americas, some from Eastern Europe but mainly from Spain. We are often struck by the fact that people from Romania hire us and that it might seem that they are from a very different culture but equally enjoy Mexican music. But in the end, more than 60% of our customers are Spanish.

At what moment of the wedding do you act?

Julia Jambrina: Depending on whether the wedding is civil or religious the moments are completely different. It also differs from the type of couple, whether they are more traditional or more innovative. Usually it is the religious ceremony, where classical music is played (about 7 pieces for long ceremony and 3 for short ceremony). As I said before, every time more concerts are requested during the cocktail and the DJ is usually left for dinner and the later moment.

Víctor Alcaide: We make cocktails, civil and religious ceremonies. We also act after the banquet, but less often, since our style and our personality fit more in the other moments.

Adrian Alcaide Quesada: We usually act after the wedding cake, but we have also acted after the wedding cake or once the social dance with the guests has begun.

Radamaria Nazarenco Duminica: As I was saying before, it depends on what the couple asks of us. Sometimes we act when they dance the two alone, at their entrance to the restaurant, at the party …

Rafael Suarez: Depending on what style the couple wants to give to their wedding, we can introduce ourselves at the cocktail party or after dinner. When we introduce ourselves at the cocktail we usually seek to give a calm and elegant atmosphere but when we present ourselves after dinner what we seek is to lift the party to the fullest.

Tell us a little bit about the weddings you have acted in. One experience to tell us?

Julia Jambrina: There are many experiences to tell but, if I should highlight one, it would be about a couple who asked for heavy music to play a duet of violins during the ceremony at the Church (which was not easy because the priest did not recognize the songs we played as the traditional ones) and also I have been asked for a percussion band to make a mascletá in imitation of Valencian pyrotechnics.

Víctor Alcaide: We usually act in cocktails and ceremonies, both civil and religious. It is a very pleasant scenario to act in these events, since people are predisposed to enjoy and have fun. It is usual that guests come to ask for songs or prepare surprises and that most people end up dancing or interacting with the group.

Adrian Alcaide Quesada: Once, a couple were part of the show doing a performance with 12 dancers and having a show of more than 10 minutes. It was a very special performance.

Radamaria Nazarenco Duminica: In a wedding that we remember with lot of affection, we danced a very famous dance called 4 small swans from the Swan Lake.

Rafael Suarez: Perhaps the best experience we have had was in February of this year. We were hired by a man from Argentina to play in Morocco and the guy had a lot of money of course. He hired Mariachis from Spain and other music groups from other countries and we spent a couple of days there in celebration of his party.

How many time in advance should a couple contact you?

Julia Jambrina: In my experience, it works best when musicians hire one or two months before the wedding than when they reserve it a year in advance because in a year, many things can happen, even if they see another group that they like more, or make it cheaper, or that the wedding takes place elsewhere, which directly affects technical issues of lights and sound.

Victor Alcaide: It depends mostly on the season. We are fortunate to be fully booked most of the summer already in March, with the rest of the months being lighter as there are fewer weddings. In any case, we recommend that if the contractor wishes to have us at his wedding, he does so at least 4 months in advance in order to secure the date.

Adrian Alcaide Quesada: The time with which the hiring takes place is always important, since both parties must coincide with the agenda, but it can always be that in a week they hire you and there is availability to carry out the show.

Radamaria Nazarenco Duminica: The bride and groom have to contact us one month in advance.

Rafael Suarez: The best thing is for the bride and groom to book the time a couple of months before, since above all during the summer we accumulate work. For this summer we have reservations that we have made since last year.
