To impress your partner and make him or her never forget how you proposed, you have to start by looking for the place that will become the setting for the big question, so if you want to pull off a movie-worthy proposal, a proposal in Salamanca is for you.
Salamanca? Yes, with a historic centre full of architectural wonders and a great atmosphere of people, Salamanca will make you fall in love at first sight when you step foot in the city’s fantastic gems.
And that’s why we’re here! To tell you in this article about the best ten places to have a dreamy proposal in Salamanca.
You will never forget it!
1. Castle Buen Amor
This castle is a fabulous setting that invites you to stroll through its French labyrinth, have a glass of wine in the keep, spend a night in a room with a private terrace with vaulted ceilings and enjoy a relaxing bath accompanied by flowers and champagne.
Outside the castle, the landscape is full of gardens and vineyards, with thousands of trees, its own wine cellar, majestic towers… An idyllic place to get engaged!
The most authentic idea we propose is to carry out the romantic proposal with views of the dome and incredible views of the castle, a setting in which there is a labyrinth of vegetation and vineyards, which becomes a fairytale location at sunset. We love proposals at sunset!
Experience a dream marriage proposal at sunset at the Castillo del Buen Amor!
2. Towers of Salamanca Cathedral
Salamanca Cathedral is one of the main attractions of the city, and the best thing is that you can climb them! From the top, you can enjoy incredible views at the viewpoint where you can see a panorama of the whole city.
A spectacular place to get down on one knee! Perfect for the bride and groom who want to make a “high” proposal.
It is worth noting that, in the morning, there are usually fewer people, so the groom can take advantage of this time to make his proposal in Salamanca in a more intimate and private way.
3. The towers of the Pontifical University
The two towers of the Pontifical University are opposite each other and are connected by a small corridor. Queen Margarita desired the building to be raised on the highest point of the city, so that the whole of Salamanca can be seen from the towers.
It is like a “stairway to heaven”, from which you can enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the city that you have never seen before. On the balcony, the couple will have very beautiful photographs of the moment of the marriage proposal in Salamanca.
4. Palominos Street
This street is located between two main streets: Rúa Mayor, where you can find the oldest restaurants in the city; and Calle San Pablo, where there are two Michelin-starred restaurants. Perfect for celebrating with good food that you are already engaged!
The name “Palominos” comes from the fact that in the past it was common to find wood pigeons along the slope.
Calle Palominos is a small and usually quiet place, and it is very charming because from here you can see a beautiful view of the Pontifical University and Casa de las Conchas, which makes it a dream setting for an engagement in Salamanca.
5. The wharf of the River Tormes
It is located on the Tormes River, the wharf is right between the Roman Bridge and Enrique Esteva Bridge, and it is a great place for a proposal in Salamanca, as you can propose during a boat ride on the Tormes, accompanied by a beautiful view of the historic centre of the city. Especially at sunset, it’s truly amazing and even more memorable!
It’s worth noting that nearby there is the restaurant Pachamama, which has an outdoor terrace overlooking the river, where the bride and groom can go to enjoy a delicious dinner to celebrate that they are engaged.
6. Garden Calixto and Melibea
Huerto de Calixto y Melibea is a small garden area situated along the city wall with beautiful views of the Cathedrals and the banks of the river Tormes, and is located in the place where Fernando de Rojas is believed to have placed the meeting place of the main characters and the scene of the tragic outcome of the famous novel La Celestina.
You can “take your girl to the orchard“ to propose to her in places like the fountain with the ivy in bloom, next to the well with views of the Cathedral and the Roman Bridge… Could it be more charming?
It is one of the best places for a marriage proposal in Salamanca, where it is always possible to find a moment with few people to organise an unforgettable proposal.
7. Balmes Street
To propose on Calle Balmes means to do so amidst the coolness and shade of the covered arcs in the central aisle of this street.
The twisted branches of the wisteria twine around the metal structure and between the months of April and May there is a spectacle of lilac-coloured flowers that make it to be a dream setting for a proposal in Salamanca.
The best thing is that there are always very few people because the street is hidden away, and another advantage is that it’s only 5 minutes away from the main attractions of the city! Afterwards, you can continue celebrating your engagement.
8. Huerto de San Esteban
El Huerto de San Esteban is an exclusive terrace inside the Hospes Palacio de San Esteban, until now only used for events.
You can propose to your partner and enjoy a wine, cocktail or soft drink with stunning views of the Cathedrals and the entire city centre, and even take a dip in the pool with live music playing in the background!
And after the proposal of marriage in the Huerto de San Esteban, it’s time to enjoy the culinary offer of the restaurant’s chef. How about a cold mango cream, a couscous salad with avocado cream, a salmon tartar with sesame and ginger dressing, a few tables of good Iberian sausages or a truffled Iberian hamburger at low temperature?
There’s a reason why it’s the trendiest place in town!
9. The terrace of the NH Collection Salamanca Palacio de Castellanos Hotel
This is one of the most prestigious hotels in the city, which is located in the historic centre. Inside it has a beautiful courtyard and a terrace with incredible views of the convent.
It is the perfect place to sit quietly after the “I do” and sip a glass of wine and enjoy a delicious meal, and even spend the night!
As a tip, this is the perfect place to propose at night, as the lights from all over the city make this place a movie-like setting.
10. The Salina Palace
One of our favourite buildings for a wedding proposal in Salamanca is Palacio de la Salina, that was built in 1538 and designed in plateresque style. The name “La Salina” comes from the fact that this building used to be a salt warehouse.
The beautiful façade of this palace stands out, featuring a walkway with eight semicircular arches at the top and a splendid portico with four semicircular arches, being an exception from the usual Renaissance Salamanca style and, on the contrary, typical of Italy and particularly of Bologna.
Your girl will be blown away when you kneel in front of this elegant palace! We’re sure she won’t be able to say no.
