Let the music play!
How did the idea of specialising in choreographing wedding dances come about and what led you to focus on this very special service?
Our philosophy has always been to bring dance to all audiences and to accompany people in their most personal moments. We are professional dancers licensed by the Conservatory and we wanted to specialise in an exclusive and personalised way in choreographing wedding dances, flashmobs and marriage proposals, since LOVE as the main theme and focus of work seems to us to be the greatest gift.
What is breathed in these days of rehearsals is so beautiful that we are always excited when people count on and trust our work to celebrate their union by dancing. It also happened to us previously that we attended many weddings as guests and we saw very closely how couples, generally, at the time of the dance were not taking out their maximum potential. Worried about the steps, counting the times or enjoying it almost not at all. We feel the need to be able to share our passion and add all our experience, training and originality in the creation of wedding dance choreographies to build a safe and friendly network for couples. Providing them with a confidential space where they can practice, feel free and enjoy the fun process of putting together the dance of their dreams, which will undoubtedly be an unrepeatable and memorable moment.
With such a wide variety of dance styles, from ballads to salsa or tango, how do you guide couples to choose the style that best suits their personality and preferences?
For us, the preparation of a wedding choreography is much more than a dance, we design a 360 experience. The first thing is to get to know the couple in depth. They tell us their story, how did they meet? Was any song playing at that moment? What songs are the soundtrack of their lives? In short, what is their way of understanding life, their musical tastes… we even observe their personalities and that is how we outline the perfect song. Once this research process is done, we would move on to defining the style that best complements them, the ideal one, the one that best represents them and with which they feel comfortable, thus achieving that the dance and the song become a beautiful synergy.
What is the most original or unusual dance style that a couple has asked you for their wedding, and what was the process of creating that choreography like?
They were a couple who were fans of the Bollywood world, especially him. He told us that he felt that it was a lively, joyful music that had always accompanied him in many tasks and moments of his life. He had seen many productions and his dream was to represent a song from his favorite movie; and we got to work. The process was mainly inspired by dances of Hindu origin such as Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Mohiniattyam and the mix of Western pop giving it that touch so characteristic of this dance style. It was very fun, they had a great time in the rehearsals and the final result was really impressive. In addition, some costume touches were added that further evoked the whole imagery of the Bollywood world. The truth is that we have choreographed an endless number of styles, Bachatas, Salsas, Waltzes, Pasodobles, Tangos, Sevillanas, Swing, Rock & Roll, although the romantic ballads win by a landslide.
Since each couple has a different level of experience in dance, how do you adapt your wedding dance choreographies for those who have no previous experience or have never danced together?
Our goal is that all preparation for a wedding dance has to be a pleasant, fun and rewarding process. We adapt to the levels without problem, most couples have never danced before or very little, so we try to make the steps simple but very showy. A beautiful dance that is natural and that the bride and groom enjoy both in the process and on the day of the performance. Practice makes perfect and everything is possible with a little dedication and practice. Couples can rest assured that if we see that they get stuck or there is a step that is not harmonious, we will always change it for another so that everything is perfect. The goal is that when the time comes to dance, they enjoy it and are relaxed. Whatever your level, our wedding dance choreographies always surprise and leave no one indifferent.
In addition to creating wedding dance choreographies, they also advise on the selection of music and costumes. What elements do you consider essential to help couples choose the perfect song for their dance?
As we mentioned before, it is essential to know the personality and tastes of each couple in order to find the ideal song. Based on this, we fine-tune and propose various options. We send them the links of the possible songs so that they can listen to them from the comfort of their homes and so that the song almost chooses them and not the other way around.
Once the song has been selected and confirmed with the couple, we send it to the musical assembly process, where the appropriate arrangements are made, in terms of the duration or assembly of the mix of various songs, so that everything is ready and we have the track for the first day of rehearsal. As for the costumes, they are a point that can add great value and spectacularity to the choreography, sometimes the small details make the difference. Therefore, we also advise and help couples who wish to give that added touch to their wedding dance choreographies.
What do you consider essential to ensure that a wedding choreography maintains the magic and the surprise factor from the first step to the end?
It is best to maintain the mystery until the wedding day, with no information leaked to the family, or preconceived ideas from the guests. The magic emerges from beginning to end by also incorporating surprising elements into the choreography, causing the audience to be unable to take their eyes off what they are seeing. In fact, there is always a great ovation at these moments. The magnetism also comes from discovering through the movement and assembly of a personalized wedding dance choreographies, the complicit gaze of two people who love each other unconditionally, how their hearts at that moment are in sync to the same rhythm and how they give off that strong connection that makes one emotional. The atmosphere that is created between the couple and how the family is involved is a fantasy.
You offer both in-person and online classes, what is the process of preparing a choreography from a distance? Are the results as effective as in person?
The process is practically very similar, we conduct a prior online interview where we get to know each other, listen to their wishes and give them recommendations and advice. Once the song and dance style have been defined, we schedule the rehearsal appointments and make sure that the couple can find a comfortable and large enough space to move around. The following days, during the rehearsals, we connect with them online and begin the choreographic assembly as usual.
In our online classes, we also have the quality of a good camera, which also allows us, if necessary, to position it at different angles so that no detail is missed. The result is the same and just as effective. When the couple is already at the wedding destination, we always like to combine it with a face-to-face rehearsal due to proximity.
There is also the option of recording the choreography itself, edited and assembled, for couples who do not find availability in their schedules to connect online.
How do you ensure that each choreography reflects the personality and style of each couple, ensuring that the dance is a true reflection of who they are?
Each couple is unique and unrepeatable and that is why we always try to capture and express in the dance steps the nature and essence that defines them. The closeness and contact with them helps us to bond in a very special way and to get to know them a little better, which makes it much easier for us to find the exact touch to give to their dance.
Have you ever had to create a choreography with very little preparation time? How did you manage to make sure that, despite the challenge, everything came out perfectly for the big day?
Yes, there are some brave couples for whom we have prepared the choreography in record time.
Our goal is to mechanize and consolidate the sequence of steps in that short time and give a lot of importance to memorization. Although it is possible and always ends up being a success, we recommend that you take enough time to enjoy the process, avoid worries and added stress to what a wedding organization entails.
When you create the dance with very little time in advance, there is a lot of information to process at once, which with the addition of excitement and nerves, you run the risk of going blank in some part of the choreography. However, when you do it with a little more margin, you can already feel a hurricane of emotions in that instant when you go out to dance, and since you have practiced it countless times, everything will turn out perfectly. The body will undoubtedly know what to reproduce and the mind will focus only on enjoying the moment, without having to think about what step is next.
So yes, you can put together a simple choreography in a short time, but with calm and good lyrics things always turn out much better.
In addition to teaching dance technique, how do you work with couples so that they feel safe and confident on stage, and strengthen their connection during the dance?
Practice is the conquest of ease, presence and spontaneity. Once the wedding dance choreographies are memorized, we work on the interpretation and connection of the couple with fun and emotional exercises. If one is not used to exposing themselves in this way, it can be something that generates some nervousness, so the focus is on focusing on the couple, forgetting about the world and creating a magical atmosphere where they only exist for each other. This makes a big difference and what is transmitted is very beautiful.
What has been the most exciting or rewarding moment you have experienced as a school when helping couples prepare to dance for their wedding?
Sometimes we see that at the beginning there is one of the members of the couple who does not seem so excited about the idea of dancing or has more insecurities about it. In that case, we always give them the confidence they need at those moments and we outline a dance tailored for them. It is very exciting to see how even at the end of the first rehearsal, once they have overcome the barrier of fear, you feel them excited and surprised with themselves, since they imagined themselves dancing much worse or even incapable. In the following rehearsals you see a total transformation in them, gaining more self-confidence. The fears at the beginning are transformed into motivation, fun and dedication until they reach the big day, where they always end up dazzling with their dancing. What’s more, a high percentage of couples end up hiring us to continue receiving classes even after the wedding. As professionals, the most rewarding thing for us is to awaken a taste and sensitivity for dance in people who apparently never considered it in their plans and to see the evolution of each couple until the final result.
Finally, what advice would you give to couples who feel nervous or insecure about the idea of dancing in front of their guests on their wedding day?
The first thing I would tell them is that they will be accompanied by the most important people in their lives, people who love and admire them. They will never have such a grateful and devoted audience. Prepare your wedding dance choreographies well in advance, spend a little time rehearsing it so that when the big day comes, regardless of your nerves, your body, which has memory, can execute those learned movements naturally. My last piece of advice would be to enjoy it, it’s okay if your nerves play a trick on you, if there is a step that you suddenly don’t remember (that won’t happen because you’ll have practiced it a lot) but in the event that it does happen, no one knows the wedding dance choreographies better than you, that relieves a lot of pressure, if you make a mistake no one will know.
