In today’s interview, you will get to know Carmen Davinia Eventos, a creative agency specializing in themed wedding planner that transforms every celebration into a unique and unforgettable experience. In this interview, we discover how this talented mother-daughter duo has revolutionized the wedding industry.
With a solid background in creating personalized weddings, Carmen Davinia Eventos stands out for its ability to turn any venue, from medieval castles to historic palaces, into magical backdrops for destination weddings. The city of Cáceres, with its impressive setting, has served as the perfect inspiration for designing all kinds of weddings.
The process includes site visits, feasibility analysis, and comprehensive guidance to ensure everything lives up to expectations. In addition to full wedding planning, they also offer services such as personalized decoration and event stationery, ensuring every detail aligns with the style and theme of the wedding.
We dive into a conversation with them to explore their creative process and how they bring each couple’s vision to life for a unique event. Their creativity knows no bounds!
What inspired you to specialize in destination and themed weddings, and how do you think these themes enrich the couple’s experience?
It has evolved over time, starting with couples from other cities and then gradually creating real wedding projects for couples living outside of Spain. For one reason or another, something would draw them to Cáceres to celebrate their wedding. Honestly, this city offers a natural setting with medieval palaces and castles, perfect for hosting stunning weddings.
With this backdrop, it’s common for couples to lean towards an ancient, rustic style, and why not, a themed one. I began to unleash my imagination to give these couples the wedding of their dreams: medieval weddings, Viking themes, Game of Thrones… It’s the most special day of their lives, and I had to make sure that what they had initially envisioned became a reality.
What additional services do you offer besides themed wedding planner?
We can coordinate the big day so the couple can enjoy it without worries. You can also count on us to create all the event stationery, completely personalized, including your wedding invitations!
The sweetest corner… the Candy Bar, is another of our specialties. We make sure everything follows the same thread, matching the wedding’s decoration and design.
Of course, another one of our services is wedding design and decoration. We love that part of the job because it allows us to let our creativity flow.
Can you walk us through the process you follow to select the perfect venues for couples seeking destination weddings, especially when they are far away?
First, we focus on the couple’s tastes and preferences. Based on that, we start searching for possible venues that align with their style and desires for the wedding. The date is also super important because the weather will largely determine the chosen venue.
Once we’ve identified potential places, we visit them to assess the spaces, check the property’s conditions, and talk to the managers to determine the event’s feasibility. We send all this information to the couple, and together we make the final decision, also considering costs, which play a key role in choosing the venue.
As themed wedding planners, we offer our perspective and advice based on our experience. That’s how we arrive at the final venue decision!
Can you describe the process you follow to help couples bring their vision to life for the big day?
The first thing we do is manage the vendors. This process usually takes about 3 months, during which we find all the companies that will participate in the wedding: flowers, catering, DJ, lighting, live music, photography… we now know WHO! Now, let’s figure out HOW.
We create a design that incorporates a vision of what their wedding could be (based on their preferences), and from there, we get started bringing everything to life, including the stationery.
In the final phase, we just finalize details and ensure everything goes according to plan.
What aspects do you consider most important when personalizing a wedding?
Personalizing a wedding doesn’t mean overwhelming it with disconnected details. For us as themed wedding planner, personalization means linking every space and moment under one or more concepts that reflect the couple’s essence. It could be a memory, a color, a place, a feeling… that special something that defines them. Their wedding should be a reflection of their personality. That’s why our weddings turn out so special – we make them an extension of themselves, unique yet coming together as one.
What current trends have you noticed in couples when choosing their wedding style? How do you stay updated on wedding trends?
Those boring old weddings no longer have a place today. Now, they are real-life experiences. Couples want fun, different events. They want to party and celebrate with their loved ones by their side. The guest list has decreased, with quality now prioritized over quantity.
A themed wedding planner who doesn’t stay updated is doomed! Haha. Every year, I refresh myself with courses, constantly keeping an eye on fashion trends on social media (our new Bible), and of course, not being afraid to suggest ideas that may seem bold… but create magic.
I’ve also started a small Wedding Expo Fair. We’ve had a successful first edition… now onto the second! We showcase the latest in the wedding industry for our couples to enjoy.
Can you share the most challenging or unusual request you’ve received from a couple, and how you brought it to life?
We’re setting up a theatrical spectacle based on King Arthur’s Round Table, and I think it’s going to be… I’ll leave it at that!
How do you ensure that each wedding you organize is unique and reflects the couple’s personality?
Honestly, it’s not difficult for me to bring a unique touch to each wedding. If you think about it, every couple is different, and no matter how hard I try, I never end up repeating concepts, haha.
There’s just one secret that works really well for that: LISTEN MORE, TALK LESS.
What’s the most memorable wedding you’ve organized as a themed wedding planner, and why?
I’ve done many weddings, but honestly, the one that touched me the most was a recent one themed around the Camino de Santiago. We recreated a northern forest at the wedding venue. That feeling of bringing to life everything we had envisioned… we ended up crying with the bride from emotion!
As a special touch, the couple trusted us completely, and we surprised them with the whole setup.
What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced working as a themed wedding planner, and how have you overcome them?
The biggest challenge is finding the decorations we want for the event. We always manage to find them, one way or another, haha. And if not, we make them ourselves!
As a mother-daughter duo working together, how does this relationship influence the work environment? What advantages and challenges have you encountered working as a family in this business?
Honestly, we get along great. We’re mother and daughter with very different personalities, but at work, we unite, and each focuses on what we do best. I’m more social, and she’s more methodical. We respect and support each other throughout the process. That’s the secret. When we’re working, we’re not mom and daughter, we’re Davinia and Sofía.
Advantages? Complete trust in the person beside me, someone I can delegate to without fear. We have constant communication, so nothing gets out of control. Plus, enjoying moments together is priceless.
Disadvantages? Sometimes we don’t agree, and in the end, the boss makes the final decision, which is me, haha.
Finally, what message would you give to couples looking for a themed wedding planner for their big day?
My message to them is to find someone who is a partner in their craziness. Someone who enjoys the process as much as they do, who pours their heart into every detail, and makes the day their own. You’ll know right away when you meet that wedding planner.
If you feel that spark and the mutual connection… don’t look any further: that’s your themed wedding planner.
