The most important part of your destination wedding in Spain only takes about 6 seconds… and that part is when you say “I DO”! At the same time, the most important part of your reception starts before you enter the reception venue,  and continues until the very end… that’s your DJ!

Indeed, your cake cutting ceremony may last as long as 5 minutes,  the food you choose could last as long as an hour, your dress, flowers, and table decorations will be beautiful. All of these things will create your ambiance,  but they won’t entertain your guests!

Odds are, you want your reception dance floor to be packed all night long. That’s why it’s important to hire top-notch entertainment. Even though a professional wedding DJ costs more than your brother making a Spotify playlist, and a live band at your wedding cost more than your aunt singing covers, the price is worth it. These wedding pros are experts at reading the room and keeping a great music flow so that your guests feel comfortable rocking out the dancefloor throughout the night.

Your DJ will start playing background music before your guests arrive. They will have your bridal party introduction music cued up and ready to go, and have your introduction list within easy reach so that it is ready to go for your grand entry. But a good wedding DJ is responsible for way more than playing music. They also act like your Mc (Master of Ceremonies). Keep in mind, not every wedding DJ has experience as an Master of Ceremonies. When you’re hiring a DJ, make sure you consider their personality as much as their experience. As your MC, they’ll be setting the tone for the whole night!

You have to make sure that the music you present will be a crowd pleaser. It’s important to make sure that you know in advance the playlist for your wedding by setting up a meeting with your DJ. At this meeting, present the style of music you prefer to be played at your reception and also pick specific songs that you love .

If you’d rather have a huge variety of genres, sounds and artists, a wedding DJ is the best choice for you. While the average wedding in Spain DJ cost does vary, the average amount couples spent was 800 €. If you want to have a famous DJ at your wedding, then the price already varies a lot. You can find them from 1.500 € to 2.500 €.

This price may appear gigantic but DJs don’t just show up and play music for 4 hours. Your DJ will spend many hours prior to your special day; preparing your music, organizing a schedule, coordinating your special songs with you, putting together your introduction list, testing the discs, packing equipment, loading equipment, unloading equipment, setting up the system, and straightening up their area,  all before your reception even starts.

Of course, the price you end up paying will depend on how long you book the DJ for (especially if you have an extended after-party), the number of DJs, and amount of equipment required but also the insurance cost. Wedding DJs typically cost less than a live band, as they’re only one or two people. Still, every DJ is different and has different pricing so it’s best to check with them specifically.

Depending on the package you chose, your wedding DJ can provide a variety of equipment, depending on your needs. A typical sound system for a wedding DJ includes a DJ deck or controller, speakers, microphones, and headphones. Some DJs can provide lighting as well as video screen and projection equipment in case you want to show a video during your reception.

So how can I lower the costs?

  • Pick some affordable dates: Some DJs offer discounts for weddings that take place during the off-season (November through February in most parts of the country) or on a day that isn’t Saturday or Friday.
  • Find a local DJ: There are different wedding DJs that will work with different wedding budgets. Find a DJ  near you, and don’t be afraid to reach out to a few to find out more about their services.
  • Limit the hours: The more time your DJ performs, the more you’ll pay. If there are ways to shorten the performance time, you can save some money on your wedding DJ cost.

To sum it all up, a month after your wedding your guests won’t remember the cake, the food, the flowers, or your table decorations, but they WILL remember what a great time they had celebrating your wedding and being entertained by the fabulous DJ you chose!
