El Retiro

The Retiro Park is the best-known park in the city, in addition to green areas in which we find a pond with boats, the Crystal Palace, the puppet theater, the artificial mountain, a library and an orchard.

Parque Europa

El Capricho park is one of the most beautiful and special parks in Madrid. It is a good option to go with children because it is a park quite different from the usual ones and it can attract a lot of attention.

Madrid Río

This park boasts more than eight kilometers of green areas that follow the Manzanares river from Casa de Campo to Matadero, where you’ll find playgrounds, swings and even a river beach.

This is located in Casa de Campo and has loads to offer, often considered to be one of the best in Spain when it comes to variety of activities. It has 32 attractions for all tastes and ages. 

Planetarium

This is perfect for children who are fascinated by space, the stars and the cosmos. This centre is designed to teach people about the universe and its history. They also organise activities where you can discover the secrets of the universe in a fun way.

Cable car

This is a perfect option that will have you flying over the greenest part of the city and see the most historic areas from the air. Kids are sure to love being high above the city.

De pino a pino

This one is for the adventure seekers out there, it’s an adventure park in the trees with seven circuits for all levels (children from 6 years old). It has giant zip lines, swinging bridges, nets, ropes, and an extreme circuit and is the only one of its kind in Spain.

Zoo Aquarium

Located in Casa de Campo, this is one of the most important zoos in the world. Visit and you’ll discover a fascinating world where you can find species from five continents without even leaving the city.

Faunia Zoo

This is the perfect place for children who love animals. It’s a large themed and natural space with more than 3000 animals of 300 different species which are divided along a recreation of 4 ecosystems and 19 themed areas adapted to each species.

Parque Warner Madrid

This theme park offers five different areas full of attractions, restaurants and shops for the whole family to enjoy. Furthermore, next to it is the Parque Warner Beach waterpark.

Micropolix 

This is a city with more than 30 themed sections where children can learn about work through play. The city has its own streets, squares, lampposts, bank, townhall, hospital, supermarket, TV studio, police… and the children are the only citizens, so they’re the ones in charge of making the city and all its areas work as they should. Here, the children can play as adults for the day, experiencing everyday situations through play, this helps them understand the rules of coexistence, social values, decision making and the management of their own resources.

Museums

Madrid has a variety of museums, many of which have areas dedicated and designed for children, so the little ones are sure to have a great time. It’s the perfect way for them to learn and have fun at the same time. Who said museums have to be boring?

    • Casa museo del Ratoncito Pérez: According to tradition, this museum is located where the tooth fairy lived with their family. The museum has two small rooms where you can see where the mouse lived, read about the history of the character and see “authentic” milk teeth from figures such as Beatrix Potter, Beethoven, Isaac Newton and Rosalía de Castro. 
    • Museo del Aire/ Air Museum: Located on the A5, this museum has several hangars and is full of all types of planes, helicopters and pretty much anything that lifts off the ground. It’s also aimed to appeal to children, with some rooms especially for them. 
    • Museo del Ferrocarril/ Railway Museum: A visit to this museum will enable you to see a complete collection of historical railway items, from vehicles to all types of pieces, elements, photos, and recreations that show the different professions throughout the history of railways. It also has activities for children and families. 
    • MUNCYT: This museum is all about the evolution of technology and aims to make science popular and fun for children. With this aim in mind, everything on display can be touched and experimented with. There are machines where children can create clouds, tornadoes, whirlpools and experience the effects of electromagnetic forces… 
    • Museo de Ciencias Naturales/ Museum of Natural Sciences: This museum exhibits an important collection of specimens, with the aim of promoting a more complete understanding of the diversity of the natural world. It’s a museum that children usually love as they’re amazed by the dinosaur models.

Football

For the little football fans, Madrid has activities that they’re sure to love. 

  • Estadio Wanda Metropolitano: For those who are Atlético de Madrid fans, you can take a stadium tour, visit Territorio Atleti where you can learn about the club’s history or even watch a match. 
  • Estadio Santiago Bernabéu: Real Madrid fans can go to the Real Café Bernabéu for a breakfast or lunch overlooking the stadium, take a stadium tour or watch a match. 
  • Museo de la selección Española: This museum is inside the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas. It’s a special place with the most important memorabilia from the history of the national team. Little fans of La Roja are sure to love it.
