To celebrate a multicultural wedding in Spain, you must take into account that the documents to be delivered are different for the Spanish person and for the foreigner, so we will divide it into two groups:

The Spanish citizen must deliver:

  • The literal Birth Certificate issued in the last 6 months. This is processed by the Civil Registry of the place of birth.
  • The residence certificate with the address corresponding to the last two years. It is issued in Spain by the City Council and you must take into account that it lasts for 3 months.
  • If you are divorced, you must deliver the literal certificate of marriage with the marginal registration of dissolution of the same.
  • In case of being a widower, you must provide the death certificate and the Family Book.

And the foreign citizen:

  • The multilingual birth certificate.
  • The certificate of matrimonial capacity or civil status.
  • The registration certificate.
  • If you are divorced, you must submit the multilingual marriage certificate with registration of the divorce, as well as divorce decree apostille and translated.
  • In case of being a widower, you must provide the multilingual certificate of the first marriage and plurilingual certificate of death of the spouse.

It is important that you bear in mind that all documentation presented must be legalized with the Apostille or with legalization by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and by the Spanish Representation in the country. On the other hand, be careful because you must present it translated into Spanish by a sworn translator who must be recognized by the Ministry. Also, in order to make sure that the marriage is not of convenience and both spouses do it voluntarily, you must present a government marriage file.

We recommend you to consult, if you have any doubt about the requirements to celebrate a multicultural wedding in Spain, the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, since, depending on the nationality of the foreign citizen, the documentation to be presented may vary.

And finally, remember that the main thing is that this paperwork does not prevent you from enjoying the preparations of your wedding, so we recommend you to follow the 3 pillars that we told you about at the beginning of the post and everything will go perfectly.
