Wedding invitations: When and what is the best way to send them to my guests?

Wedding invitations are an extremely important part of your overall wedding planning, so it is important to meet all the deadlines!

It is recommended to send the wedding invitations in advance in order to give the guests time to adjust their agendas. Therefore, many couples choose the same time to get married, so many weddings take place on the same date, and we don’t want anyone to miss ours!

That’s why in this post we tell you when and what is the best way to send your wedding invitations.

Let’s get started!

At what time is better to deliver the wedding invitations?

As a general rule, invitations are usually delivered between three months and a month and a half in advance if the guests live in a different city from the celebration and one month in advance if they live in the same city.

On the other hand, if the guests are important people who have a busy social life, the time in advance may be even longer. The earlier we send them, the fewer commitments they will have for that date. This way you ensure that they can plan ahead and you will be able to enjoy their presence with total security.

However, if you are organizing a themed wedding where there are very specific dress code requirements, such as a medieval or 1920’s themed wedding, you should send the invitations about 4 or 5 months in advance to give your guests time to find the perfect look.

On the other hand, if your family or friends have to travel, in other words, pay for a trip and often a hotel, it is better to inform them at least 6 months in advance. This way you give them time to organize themselves, find cheaper tickets and hotels, and make decisions with more peace of mind. As well as saving on the expenses involved in something like this.

If the wedding is in summer you should also give more time in advance so that your guests take your wedding into account when they plan their holidays.

What is the best way to deliver wedding invitations?

Usually, they are hand-delivered to the closest family members who live in the same city as the couple, the same to friends we see frequently, to work colleagues, and so on. Meeting your friends and guests for coffee to tell them the news is a must.

If we can’t or don’t want to give them invitations personally, another option is to send them by post well in advance, to avoid them getting lost and arriving too late. We can also use a courier service or any other means that the bride and groom consider appropriate.

However, bear in mind that this will be an extra cost, so don’t forget to include it in the budget. Another thing you have to foresee: use a service with confirmation of receipt to make sure that the invitations have arrived at their destination.

We don’t want anyone to miss out!

How to send an invitation by post?

The usual way is to send them in envelopes whose colour matches with the colour of the card or with the one used inside the card, whether they are classic, simple, elegant, fun or vintage wedding invitations.

And of course, it is necessary to decorate them! With satin ribbons, a bouquet of dried flowers or strips of lace, for example.

For original wedding invitations, such as those that simulate airline tickets, suitcases, barrels or messages in a bottle, you should take into account choosing a resistant wrapping to avoid damaging them along the way.

The reality is that… there are almost as many proposals for envelopes as there are wedding invitation models!

How many wedding invitations should I prepare?

It is not necessary to make invitations for each guest. Normally, it is needed to make 20% more than half of the number of people attending the wedding. That is to say, if our wedding is going to be attended by 100 people, we will make a few more than half. In this case, if half is 50 people, we will make 10 more.

In total 60 invitations, for a list of 100 guests, as we have to take into account that we usually give one invitation for one family or for a couple.

Save time and money

If you are eco-lovers and also want to save some money, we are fortunate to have new technologies, which are ideal for this type of occasion. Digital invitations exist and they are an excellent option, and they look beautiful and original.

You can play with different formats: images, videos or even a GIF. Nowadays, there are applications that have been created specifically for this kind of event. As you read it, there are apps that allow you to send invitations by email or by phone and through them you can receive the confirmations.

Ideal for keeping the guest list updated in real-time!
